This guided tour through the permanent exhibition penetrates the complex and fascinating history shared by Belgium and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The period is placed in the broad historical context of various Europeans powers vying for similar international expansion.
The birth of the institution and the Museum in 1898, the 1897 International Exhibition, the role played by Stanley and Leopold II, the era of the Congo Free State, the Belgian Congo, and decolonization and its international context will be considered during the tour.
