RMCA CD collection wins 2012 Academie Charles Cros award

31 March 2012 – The ‘Anthologie de la musique congolaise’, a 12-CD collection on the traditional music of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), won the coveted 2012 Charles Cros award in the World Music category.

The award was given by the Académie Charles-Cros (France) in Marseilles during the Bable Med World Music Forum. Created in 1947 by a group of critics and sound recording specialists, the Académie Charles-Cros currently counts some one hundred members who are involved in music, culture, media, and sound recording in one way or another.

The ‘Anthologie de la musique congolaise’ is a joint release of the RMCA Ethnomusicology Section and fonti musicali (Brussels).

Begun by Jos Gansemans, who served as the scientific publisher for volumes 1 through 11, the collection was concluded with the release of volume 12 under the direction of Ignace De Keyser. It gives listeners a chance to hear recordings from the collections of the RMCA and the Institut des Musées nationaux du Congo (IMNC), which were made during a number of missions by specialists such as Benoit Quersin, John Hart, Father Ménard, Didier Demolin, and Jos Gansemans.
