Since May 2008, the Museum for central Africa offers the opportunity to visit a new room devoted to Henry M. Stanley.
More than four large showcases display items, documents or photographs illustrating major episodes of Stanley’s life, like his famous encounter with Dr. Livingstone.
You may have a close look at his riffle, compass, sextant and other measuring instruments in use during his journeys, and his box with beads used as currency to insure food and free way to his caravan through the “Dark Continent”.
You will find photographic reproductions of fragile documents kept in the Stanley Archives like photographs from his personal albums, diaries, maps and other manuscripts.
You may watch a clip of Henry Morton Stanley, discovering Central Africa (*), or bury yourself in the Stanley Archives inventory through our interactive booth.
