Entomology
African insects
***While the museum building will close its doors in late 2012 for
renovation, scientific research will continue at Tervuren.***
Our collection of 6 000 000 specimens represents all the different orders of insects present in Africa. Most specimens come from Central Africa - the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Rwanda. Our research is primarily collection-based.
Our work concentrates on two groups of insects, Diptera and Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths), in the following fields:
- taxonomy,
- phylogeny,
- biogeography,
- morphology.
We collaborate with African partners and international scientific institutions.

The museum is closed on Mondays.
