Objectives

The division of Collection Management was set up on 1st February 2006 as part of the department of Cultural Anthropology, with the aim of centralising the physical and computerized management of the collections. The division of Collection Management is currently responsible for the management of the collection of ethnographic objects, the collection of musical instruments, and the photographs and historical archives of the department.

The division's tasks comprise on the one hand a number of ongoing services and on the other the planning and implementation of diverse projects.

The services rendered by the division are in part internal, and include the basic registration of collections and the development of a centralised collections database. The division is responsible for the management of the storage rooms and the care for optimal conditions for preventive conservation, including an efficient pest prevention strategy. The preparation and the making of exhibitions is generally done with assistance from Collection Management. The division has a restoration atelier for photographs and an atelier for the treatment of objects.

The external services of the division consist mainly of the administrative and practical organisation of the loans for temporary exhibitions. The division also provides photographic reproductions of objects and photographs from the anthropological and historical collections.

The division is headed by Hein Vanhee.
