The collection dates back to 1897 and consists essentially of prehistoric stone tools found in the Democratic Republic of Congo between 1926 and 1940 and between 1946 and 1955. There are 88,415 entries corresponding to isolated pieces and collections of pieces. The inventory is not digitalized. E. Cornelissen

- Deposited collections
This includes material excavated in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Gabon, as well as crafts which document the technology of modern-day pottery found in Cameroon, Togo and Burkina Faso. The collections were put together by Belgian and African researchers who have carried out their research in the section. The items are stored at their request, while storage facilities are being prepared on site. E. Cornelissen
- Photography
The collection includes around 17,000 slides and 25,000 black and white photographs. This is a unique source of documentation on the field work undertaken by the Section since 1959 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Libya, Cameroon and Gabon. The inventory is partially digitalized.
