The Contemporary History Section is a new section of the Museum's History Department. The section is made from the integration into the Royal Museum for Central Africa of the Africa Institute, a public institution created in 1992, that incorporated the Africa Study and Documentation Centre (ASDOC), a non-profit organisation established in 1971.
The Contemporary History section's objective is threefold: documentation, publication and research. Its activities focus on the former Belgian Africa, more specifically Congo/Kinshasa.
