- This database comprises more than 50 000 references to articles and works collected after 1983.
- Every title has been read and analysed. The key words were attributed after reading based on a thesaurus which is constantly updated by specialists depending on the development of their disciplines.
- About 200 periodicals are gone through annually. The fields covered are those relating to human and social sciences.
- Visitors to the website will find, for instance, titles relating to development policies and their application, as well as anthropological theories and social aspects of medicine, the economy, politics and linguistics - and much more besides.
- Searching by key words, possibly combined, enables thematic searches which are particularly useful with regard to editing articles, final papers and theses. Appropriate bibliographies can be quickly drawn up and visitors to the site will become aware of the existence of a vast body of work.
Apart from periodicals, all specialised works constituting the section's library are also encoded after consultation by researchers. Collective work dealing with ethno sociology and ethno history are encoded chapter by chapter. This library has more than 5,000 titles which makes it one of the most important libraries in Europe of African social sciences.
The library of the RMCA, containing some 130 000 works nearly all devoted to the African continent, is a reference library at international level.
- http://tanganyikabase.africamuseum.be : 3,000 references to works about the Lake Tanganyika hinterland, from the libraries of the Royal Museum for Central Africa and of the School of Oriental and African Studies (London).
