20. Zoological dioramas

The impressive elephant and the animals in the dioramas of this hall were stuffed for the 1958 World fair in Brussels. They were brought to Tervuren a year later.

 

 

The dioramas display three groups of animals from the three large Central African biotopes: the Northern Savannah, the tropical rainforest and the Southern Savannah.
The elephant is displayed on its own. It is an old male with a shoulder height of 3.40m and tusks each weighing about 40 kg.
