FishBase symposium

and presentation of FishBase in the White House

Jos Snoeks (photo), Tobias Musschoot, Gert Boden en Dimitri Geelhand (FishBase team in the RMCA) participated in the 13th annual FishBase Symposium: 'FishBase and SeaLifeBase for Teaching and Research in Aquatic Science'. The symposium took place on 1 September 2015 in Los BaƱos (Philippines).

During the symposium, local universities and (inter)national research institutions emphasized how FishBase and SeaLifeBase contribute to teaching and research. Jos Snoeks presented the RMCA FishBase for Africa program and highlighted the importance of the RMCA FishBase training sessions.

FishBase is the world's largest, freely accessible, online database on fishes. FishBase is supported by a consortium that currently consists of ten international research institutions, including the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA) as one of the founding members.

Daniel Pauly, one of the founders of FishBase, took part in the 'Open Science and Innovation: Of the People, By the People, For the People' forum on 30 September 2015 in the White House. His speech is available on Youtube.
