LUMINOUS

(15 May – 4 September 2011)

Creative project 2011

The audience is on show !

lumineus-tn.jpgLuminous
, the RMCA’s fourth creative project, is part of the Fetish Modernity exhibition which is on display until 4 September 2011. The task was to create a standard- or table lamp based around the notion of 'modernity’. Participants had the challenge of combining forms, materials, patterns or ideas which had been borrowed from different cultures or eras.

Of the hundred people who took part, the first ninety managed to secure a place in the museum. They created a dazzling array of lamps using diverse materials such as contact lens cases, cassettes, perfume bottles, windscreen wipers, zips, gas pipes, African sand, a mosquito net, a pig’s bladder, coconut matting and a tortoiseshell.

During the Africa  < > Tervuren day you could vote for your favorite lamp. The winners were announced in the early evening of Sunday 15 May.
