Image number: 1332
Feature : pan
Grouping : water table
Discipline : hydrogeology
Year : 1999
Locality : Kathu pan
Country : South-Africa
Region - tribe : Northern Cape
Physiographic region : Vaal & Orange River basin
Notice : notice Oasis. Water percolates over the top of the impervious basement rocks below the Kalahari sand sea and resurges where the sand sheet is thin and the top of the basement forms a local underground collector. Vegetation is hardly denser close to the pan. The reason is the low capillary rise of water in the sands
