Portus Ojomo

artists | practical info | activities
Portus Ojomo was born in Nigeria in 1952 and has evolved as a painter and sculptor. Later on he perfected his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and the Instituto Allende in Mexico. His training is based on the values of Western (chiefly European) history and tradition within art.
Portus Ojomo is a contemporary artist who has evolved from the African art tradition to the dominant Western influences in art. The expression and strong contrasting colours give Portus Ojomo’s paintings a particular resonance.
Alongside exhibitions at home and abroad the works of Portus are part of private and official collections such as his bronze bas-relief that he designed in 1989 for the sixty years of ‘Onze Woning’ in Antwerp, and a bronze bas-relief for the Jos Verhelstplein in Antwerp in 1998.
In addition he has created a mural depicting the history of the post office in the Antwerpen X postal sorting office.
In 2010 his work was selected for the FIFA International Fine Arts and the Institut Emile Vandervelde presented him with the Prize for Creativity.
