Title: The sculptures of Jane Tercafs (1898-1944)
Producer: Jane Tercafs (°1898 - †1944)
Object type: bas-relief
Materials: rocks > granite
Theme: portrait
Legend: Jane Tercafs was originally from Belgian Limburg but went to live in Paris. Between 1935 and 1940, she visited the north-eastern part of what is now the DRC, concentrating on the women and children of the Meje and Mayogo communities. The Tercafs collection includes sculptures, drawings and photographs taken by Tercafs herself. The relationship between photographic portraits and sculptures is an interesting one. In terms of aesthetics and technique, the contrast between rough size and polished form should be noted.
