Place of production:
Democratic Republic of the Congo > Kinshasa > Kinshasa
Legend:
This design for a new residency of the governor-general of 1924 illustrates the ambition to turn Leopoldstad into a monumental capital. The design refers to the Congo museum in Tervuren, but the central dome is a replica of the one that crowns the royal palace in Brussels. It would take another 30 years before the construction of the residence finally began, but an equestrian statue of Leopold II was already erected on the square in front of it in 1928.
