Town and architecture in Congo, 1885-1940

Theme: medicine/health care, city, buildings, health
Place of production: Rwanda
Legend: Health care was one of the colonial policy’s spearheads. By the late 1920s, an intricate network of medical posts (hospitals, dispensaries, etc.) had been laid out across the Congolese territory. This undated photo of the dispensary in Bufulero illustrates that medical infrastructure might have reached the far corners of the colony, but that it also remained extremely basic in many cases.
