Colonial Film. Congo, Rwanda and Burundi. A preservation and repatriation project
A three-year project (2008-2010) with a panel of partners: the RMCA, the royal film library of Belgium, the Kadoc and Universities of Belgium (ULB-KUL-Saint-Louis), of the Democratic republic of Congo (UNIKIN), of Rwanda (Université de Butare), of Burundi (Université de Bujumbura) It involves National Heritage preservation, circulation of knowledge and cultural development, in favour of Central Africa. The project is divided into three stages: making up the inventory of film archives in order to give a general survey of the existing material; digitalizing most of it, entrusted to RMAC, KADOC and CRB; bringing back digitalized copies to Central Africa. These new historical resources will contribute to interdisciplinary research and interuniversity exchange on the concept of memory in history. Their introduction in the local curriculum will increase the importance of social sciences as well.
