Scanning of audio-visual materiel
The audio-visual materiel scanning project is undertaken by the Ministry of Scientific Policy, within the framework of the first “Cultural and Scientific Heritage Digitalization Program for the Federal Scientific Institutions”. The project’s first stage (2005-2008) relates to the scanning of sound archives in ethnomusicology and colonial history sections. It is a dual goal project: (a) shifting sound archives to a long-lasting medium to stop damages that affect the oldest records; (b) providing easier access to users inside or outside the institution. Therefore, several steps are taken: restoring and digitalizing the whole sound archives in ethnomusicology and colonial history sections, digitalizing their metadata, creating /adapting a database into ICT (RMCA) to be put on line first on intranet, and later on internet .
