DaFroStop addresses the emerging biosecurity risk posed by Dacus frontalis, a fruit fly species with potential to expand its range into Europe. Building on TEPHRISURV and in synergy with PESTFLY and DISPEST, the project combines ecological, genomic and operational research to support early detection, risk assessment and control strategies in Belgium. It will consolidate existing knowledge through literature review, database mining and museum and external data integration; model the current and future distribution of D. frontalis in Africa and Belgium; improve molecular identification through DNA barcoding, whole genome sequencing and diagnostic SNP panels; and develop optimized trapping, surveillance and integrated pest management approaches for D. frontalis and related species.
