Mayombe, ritual sculptures from the Congo
This book serves as the catalogue for the exhibition presented at Leuven's M Museum from 7 October 2010 to 23 January 2011. Mayombe. Masters of magic presents valuable sculptures and other objects from the Congolese collections belonging to the K.U.Leuven, the Université Catholique de Louvain and the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren. 100 years ago, missionaries of Scheut collected these impressive pieces in Mayombe, a region in Lower Congo. To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the independence of Congo, M is bringing these rare objects back together again for the first time.
