Goma est une ville fascinante où grouille plus d'un million d'âmes prises dans les feux croisés des risques naturels et du cataclysme socio-politique et sécuritaire. Capitale de la province du Nord-Kivu, elle est l'enfer pour les uns, mais une ville d'avenir pour les autres. Contrairement aux clichés négatifs tenaces, ce livre souligne les sentiments constructifs du bien-être, de la résilience et de l'opportunité au sein de la population. À l'instar des autres villes et villages de la République démocratique du Congo, il y a à Goma des lueurs d'espoir dans l'incertitude et de l'ordre dans le désordre.
Reposant sur douze récits de vie, cet ouvrage raconte la ville au travers d'histoires authentiques et humanisantes. Les révélations et anecdotes sont parfois surprenantes, souvent déchirantes, mais toujours prégnantes de sens. Cette approche – résolument qualitative – aide à nuancer les liens existants entre ces personnes et leurs environnements, tant sociaux, écologiques, politiques, économiques que religieux.
Précarité et bien-être à Goma nous plonge dans la découverte des sentiments intimes de la population et des multiples réalités qu'elle vit dans ce creuset social, toujours en quête d'avenir.

Goma is een fascinerende stad, een mierennest van meer dan een miljoen zielen in het spervuur van natuurrampen en de crisis op sociopolitiek vlak en wat betreft de openbare veiligheid. De hoofdstad van de provincie Nord-Kivu is voor sommigen de hel, voor anderen echter een stad met toekomstperspectieven. Ondanks de negatieve hardnekkige clichés, wijst dit boek op de constructieve gevoelens van welzijn, veerkracht en opportuniteiten die heersen onder de bevolking. Net als in de andere steden en dorpen van de Democratische Republiek Congo, licht er hoop op in de tunnel van onzekerheid en ontwaren we orde in de wanorde.
Dit boek, gebaseerd op twaalf levensverhalen, vertelt ons over de stad via authentieke en menselijke gebeurtenissen. De onthullingen en anekdotes zijn nu eens verrassend, vaak hartverscheurend, maar altijd betekenisvol. Deze benaderingswijze – resoluut kwalitatief – helpt om de banden tussen deze personen en hun omgeving te nuanceren, zowel op sociaal, ecologisch, politiek, economisch als religieus vlak.
