Missionary Work and Architecture in the Belgian Congo (1908-1960). Identity (re)construction between the transmission of culture and dialogue.
This FWO (Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek) project analyzes the process which leads to the settlement of specific missionary spaces in colonial Congo. These spaces are conceived as architectural areas and cultural interactions ones as well. This project recently led the Department of Architecture, Urbanism and Planning, (K.U.Leuven), to organize an international workshop on ‘Spatializing the Missionary Encounter. The Interaction between Missionary Work and Space in Colonial settings’. This will lead to a Dissertation ((Bram Claeys, ASRO/K.U.Leuven)
