"Crise de nègre et autres noirceurs" by Pitcho Womba Konga
Pitcho Womba Konga presents an intimate ritual where rap, theatre and Congolese rumba meet. In his new creation, “Crise de nègre et autres noirceurs”, he blends slam, spoken word and rap with the sounds of rumba and urban music.
Drawing on his own journey, Pitcho raises questions about "négritude" (cfr. Aimé Césaire & Léopold Sédar Senghor), the complex ties between Africa and Europe, and the search for his roots. The common thread is identity.
The performance builds on his album Crise de Nègre (2010), adding new texts. On stage he is joined by a musician and by projected images that respond directly to his words. In doing so, he returns to the roots of urban culture in Harlem and the Bronx, where poets and storytellers chanted their truth to pass on their history.
