Prince Louis Rwagasore: from the struggle for independence to Belgian-Burundian relations
For the 65th commemoration of the death of Prince Louis Rwagasore (1932-1961), the Royal Family of Burundi-Kukirimba Belgium invites you, in collaboration with the AfricaMuseum, to a conference on his life, battles, and legacy.
Born in 1932, eldest son of mwami (king) Mwambutsa IV Bangiricenge, Prince Louis Rwagasore was assassinated on 13 October 1961, shortly after being elected Prime Minister of Burundi. At the time, the central African nation of Burundi was still a trust territory under Belgium.
