Drums from Sub-Saharan Africa
Object type:
musical instrument > membranophones > vessel drum
Materials:
wood, leather, vegetal fibre, metals > iron (and alloys)
Legend:
Closed single-skinned barrel-shaped drum with a leather band. What strikes here is the extremely dim timbre and low sound of the drum. This is partly because of the thick elephant skin that serves as a membrane. The drum has a small internal ball bearing.
