Legend: Five sheets of drawings made by Emmanuel Muller between 1905 and 1907 were donated to the RMCA by the painter James Thiriar (1889-1965) who accompanied the Belgian scientific expedition to Ruwenzori in 1932. On these sheets, Emmanuel Muller reproduced in ink Mangbetu and Zande objects and dwellings decorated with anthropomorphic or geometric designs. In August 1907, he drew the designs covering a wall which he admired in the Zande village in GangiIl which inspired the pencil sketches in his notebook. Muller could even identify the episode drawn - the meeting of Commander Albert Versluys and Louis Bareau, both of whom were posted to Uele between 1897 and 1907.
