| Notice : | Exfoliation and splitting (Kernsprunge)as mechanical weathering forms of Nubian sandstone boulders. Freshly exposed rock surfaces are whitish. Other rock surfaces are garned by a 'desert varnish', a surficial chemical precipitation of iron and manganese, developing only on that part of the rock fragment receiving light. |
