Conference abstract
The integration, harmonization and standardization of biodiversity information is necessary to determine the current status and trends of biodiversity in such a way that relevant decision makers are informed. The European Biodiversity Observation Network (EU BON) is the European contribution to the Group on Earth Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON), itself a part of the Group of Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). EU BON builds on existing structures such as GBIF, LifeWatch, LTER and DataOne, thereby integrating access to multiple data sources.
Started in December 2012 and supported by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme (FP7), EU BON has now entered its final six months. It is our pleasure to inform the International LTER community of EU BON’s major results and outcomes in the field of data mobilization, curation, integration, analysis and publication. We will present some highlights from the European Biodiversity Portal (accessible via http://eubon.eu). This online interface offers access to a vast biodiversity data collection for Europe, including metadata from EuMon, and new analytical tools and visualizations. Highlighted tools demonstrated during the presentation include the Trends tool for biodiversity data analysis and the GBIF IPT for sample-based data, which was developed in collaboration with EU BON. Opportunity for more in-depth discussion will be provided to participants in the hands-on demonstration of EU BON’s products.
