Congo 50 - NL
In het kader van onze tentoonstelling over de onafhankelijkheid, heeft het KMMA samengewerkt aan Africalia's project om een strip te publiceren.
Het stripalbum Congo 50, gemaakt door acht tekenaars van BD Kin Label uit Kinshasa, vertelt in 48 kleurenpagina's, het verhaal van de tweeling Dipanda en Lipanda, op 30 juni 1960 in Kinshasa gedoopt, dezelfde dag als de onafhankelijkheid van Congo. Hun bestaan vormt de rode draad doorheen het scenario van 50 jaar Congolese onafhankelijkheid. Zo ontdekt de lezer bepaalde politieke figuren en sociale en culturele evenementen die enkele aardverschuivingen zullen teweegbrengen in dit uitgestrekte land, waartegenover België niet onverschillig zal kunnen blijven.
Dankzij de politieke en culturele chronologie is het ook een educatieve strip geworden, waarmee jongeren kunnen kennismaken met een rijke en complexe geschiedenis die ons allen aanbelangt.

The 50th anniversary of Congo's independence as seen by eight Congolese comic strip artists
As part of our exhibition Indépendance !, the RMCA teamed up with Africalia to publish the comic book Congo 50, created by eight artists of Kinshasa's BD Kin Label. In 48 colour plates, it tells the story of the twins Dipanda and Lipanda, baptized in Kinshasa on 30 June 1960, Congo's independence day. Their lives are the guiding thread stretching across 50 years of Congolese independence, leading the reader to learn about political figures and the social and political events that rocked this immense country to which Belgium couldn't remain indifferent. The educational potential of comic strips is fulfilled here with the help of a political and cultural timeline, allowing kids to get acquainted with a rich, complex history that concerns us all.
