Article in a scientific Journal / Article in a Journal
The presence of species belonging to the Dysdera lata complex in France and Corsica is reassessed. Historical records have long been attributed to D. westringi but also sometimes to D. lata. The two species are currently recorded from Corsica. Recent material confirms the occurrence of D. lata in mainland France. The criterion based on the presence and number of dorsal spines on the posterior femurs is reviewed and discussed. A re-examination of the original description of D. sanguinipes Simon, 1882 allows to establish its synonymy with D. lata Reuss, 1834 syn. nov. Consequently, D. lata is the only representative of the complex present in France, Corsica and the western Mediterranean region.
