Congo - Brazil project

The Araçuaí-West Congo Orogenic belt (AWCO) situated mainly in eastern Brazil and partly in western Africa (D.R. Congo, R.P. Congo, Gabon and Angola) is a good field for the study of the reactivation of inherited structures, and particularly for the Gondwana break-up and the opening of the Atlantic Ocean.
For a better understanding of the tectonic movements, they will be studied in an absolute time-frame given by low temperature methods (apatite fission track and apatite U-Th-Sm)/He). The studies will be held in East Brazil and West-Africa (Kongo-Central, DRC).
A first sampling has been performed on field in Brazil in 2015 and in the collection of the Museum.
In 2016, a second field-trip has been held to complete the sampling in Kongo Central (DR Congo).
