Archaeobotany and vegetation history in Central-Africa through analysis of charcoal

Charcoal fragments are present in most of the forest soils. Charcoal is an inert material that conserves most of the wood anatomical features. This enables the botanical identification of the taxon and an evaluation of the past floristic structure of the vegetation.
