Application form for reproductions of sound documents from the collections of the RMCA Tervuren

This form is used to submit a request for a working copy, without the transfer of reproduction rights, of audio documents from the RMCA Tervuren collections.

Requests are limited to a maximum of fifty recordings per person per month.

4. General terms and conditions
  • Requests are processed in the order in which they are received. For requests for copies of existing audio recordings, the delivery time will be a maximum of 3 weeks.
  • The files provided constitute a working copy strictly reserved for consultation purposes in the context of scientific research or private use. No transfer, license or authorisation for reproduction, distribution, performance, adaptation, or commercial exploitation is granted by this provision. All intellectual property rights, and in particular the right of reproduction, remain fully reserved. Any use beyond the scientific research or private use expressly authorised above (in particular publication, public broadcast, uploading online, reuse in another project or commercial exploitation) requires the prior written consent of the rights holders. In such cases, please contact the various Belgian collective rights management societies for authors, composers, and publishers.
    • If the RMCA holds the copyright to a protected work, the applicant must obtain authorisation for use and/or publication from the RMCA Tervuren. This written authorisation will be granted via the CC-BY license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode).
    • If RMCA Tervuren is not the copyright holder of a protected work, the applicant must refer to copyright legislation and, if necessary, obtain authorisation for use and/or publication from the rights holder. Where possible, RMCA will provide any information or contact details in its possession. The RMCA Tervuren accepts no liability for any claims by third parties relating to copyright or, where applicable, other rights that may not have been respected by the applicant in respect of the works of which copies have been provided to the RMCA.
  • The applicant shall provide the RMCA, where applicable, with a free copy of each publication or edition in which the recording is used: Royal Museum for Central Africa, Archives and Collections Management Department, Repro Secretariat, Leuvensesteenweg 13, 3080 Tervuren, Belgium or repro@africamuseum.be (for digital publications, e-books, etc.) .
  • The RMCA’s sound archives were compiled from a wide variety of societies across the African continent and their content may contain culturally sensitive material. They must therefore not be subject to any form of appropriation that could harm the indigenous communities that hold them.
  • The RMCA is committed to international partnerships with the aim of establishing agreements with the communities of origin to define accessibility policies for these collections. It encourages projects based on obtaining the consent of the communities of origin and promoting their reappropriation of their audio heritage.
