From 18 to 23 September 2023, the seventh conference of the Pan African Fish and Fisheries Association (PAFFA 7) was held at the “Université Marien Ngouabi” in Brazzaville (Republic of the Congo). This meeting, which takes place once every five years, brings together the world's scientists involved in African fish research. In this framework, M. KIWELE MUTAMBALA Pacifique (KMPf), teaching assistant at the “Faculté des Sciences Agronomiques” (FSA-UNILU, DR Congo) and student collaborator of the "Mbisa Congo" II project (MRAC/DGD, 2019-2023), has participated, for a second time, to this congress.

On Wednesday, 20 September, 2023, he gave an oral presentation, in English, on a sub-topic developed as part of his DEA dissertation defended in 2022 at UNILU. This presentation, entitled: “Waterfall climbing in Africa: evidence of the shellear Parakneria thysi Poll, 1965 (Gonorhynchiformes: Kneriidae) on the Luvilombo Falls (upper Congo Basin)”, has been selected as one of the eight best student presentations delivered during the conference. For this, a merit award was conferred to M. KMPf and the seven other students during the closing session of the conference.

Subsequently, in order to share this wonderful experience at the local level, a restitution session, held in French, was organised on Thursday 28 September, 2023, for the members of the “Unité de recherche en Biodiversité et Exploitation durable de Zones Humides (BEZHU, FSA-UNILU)” who were not able to be present in Brazzaville.
