PANAFGEO+ - CW
GENERAL OBJECTIVE The action aims to support the Ministry of Mines and its public establishments, and in particular the National Geological Survey of Congo (SGNC), in developing effective strategies and policies for the acquisition, management and valorisation of geoscientific data, through the development of human capacity as well as the means, equipment and infrastructure essential for this purpose. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES The specific objectives identified through the needs expressed by the departments of the Ministry of Mines are: - Development of human capital to ensure the sustainability of the responsibilities of the various departments of the Ministry of Mines, in particular the National Geological Survey of Congo (SGNC). - Acquiring the infrastructure, equipment and technical resources needed to better meet the expectations of all stakeholders. - Support for the implementation of the national strategy to enhance geological knowledge and assessment of mineral resources of DRC, as well as the management and valorisation of geoscientific data. RESULTS • Geological mapping and geoscientific surveys (geology, geochemistry, mineral resources, geomaterials, etc.) of the geological research zones (ZRG) are designed to improve geological knowledge, as well as the DRC's mineral potential. • The capitalization and accessibility of geological data are strengthened by the operationalization of the Banque Nationale des Données Géoscientifiques (BNDG), containing coherent, reliable and verifiable geological information that can be accessed and used by all stakeholders (government, private investors and civil society. • The development of geological archives held in Belgium, at the Royal Museum for Central Africa (MRAC) and the National Archives and State Archives in the Provinces (referred to as ‘State Archives’), as well as in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in various institutions likely to house relevant geological archives, is one of the important actions of this project in order to promote the sharing of knowledge and to support the deployment of the DRC's national strategy for the evaluation of their mineral resources. • Artisanal mining zones (ZEAs) are developed through geological fieldwork to promote results for ASSM stakeholders. • The capacity of the Ministry of Mines to fulfil its responsibilities in terms of managing geoscientific information and negotiating mining contracts is being strengthened through the implementation of training plans and staff career development plans, as well as the acquisition of tools and equipment essential to its missions. • The analysis of artisanal clusters throughout the DRC should help the Ministry of Mines to improve its understanding of land use and ESG issues • Promoting innovative low-carbon processes and the treatment of mining waste among economic players, with the aim of increasing mining production and meeting environmental and economic challenge
