Promoting the Stanley Archives

After H. M. Stanley's death in 1904, his papers remained with his heirs in England. At the end of the 20th century, they were progressively bought and brought back to Belgium. They now belong to the King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) and in turn held in trust by the RMCA. The Archives, numbering over 7,000 entries in the inventories, consist inter alia of manuscripts, diaries, letters, albums, clippings, photographs, etc. and are opened to scholars for consultation upon appointment. It is RMCA's duty to organise and promote this unique collection and make it available not only to Belgian or foreign researchers, but to the general public at large. Classification and inventory ended in 2004. Access to on-line inventory followed thereafter, and a photographic corpus supplemented the on-line resource in 2007. In 2010, the Henry M. Stanley’s collection of memorabilia is following.
